Eye on the Prize

For the past 4-5 months I’ve been searching for the perfect bike. I’ve researched different brands and looked at countless websites and I’ve finally found it! It’s a bit pricey, so when I told my husband that I had finally discovered the bike that I have been dreaming about, he said “Ok we can get the bike, but let’s make a deal.”

This intrigued me. As a child my parents observed my competitive nature and would come up with “contests” where the prize was something I desired or an experience I wished to have. So this appealed to me. My husband and I have made such deals in the past and I always keep my eye on the prize and ultimately get what I want, the great thing is that the journey always brings something with it as well. When I said that I wanted a pug, we made a deal that when a certain amount was paid off on the credit cards I would get a pug. So in the end, I got my beloved Fiona and our credit cards were paid off as well…win/win.

This deal is, I must admit, a little more daunting. So here’s the deal. In order for me to finally get this beauty……

My Bike

I must remain sugar and gluten free for 3 months AND workout at the gym for 3 hours each week! The first part won’t be so hard for me, I’ve been gluten and sugar free for almost a year now (aside from a few setbacks here and there), It’s the latter part that I’m having a hard time with.

I’ve never been much of a gym kinda gal. I don’t like them, I don’t like working out, and I feel intimidated at the gym. But damn it, I want that bike!! So I got myself a personal trainer and have my aqua aerobics schedule written in my calendar and I’m on my way. I will have to say that I LOVE aqua aerobics. I did it when I lived in San Diego and I really like the pool at my gym here, so I’m very happy to be doing that. I’m looking forward to working with a trainer so I can learn the best way to work out and help strengthen my back, since my injury/surgery I have noticed the strength in my back and core has really diminished.

I know for most people the prize of working out is feeling and looking better, but for me that just isn’t enough to motivate me. I know it’s strange, but hey whatever works, right?

So hopefully come the end of September you’ll see me riding around town on my new gorgeous bike (and a few pounds lighter as well).
